Rudy and Jessenia Visit Seattle in Style

Jessenia loves Seattle and has told Rudy many times that she wants to ultimately move and live in Seattle. As the two currently live in Texas, Rudy knew he wanted to pop the question on their vacation to Seattle.

There’s no greater view of the Seattle Skyline than at Kerry Park – the location to their surprise proposal. Rudy and Jessenia arrived to Kerry Park and grabbed a seat on one of the benches. Much to Jessenia’s shock and hesitation, a guitarist came over and asked them to follow him. The guitarist led them to a portion of the park where dozens of candles were set up along with garland along the park railing. With the sun currently setting, it created a magical light over the place. The guitarist then began serenading Jessenia and Rudy. Rudy got down on one knee and asked Jessenia to marry him.

She said YES 0f course! Jessenia then was handed the most beautiful bouquet with all of her favorite flowers. After lots of sunset photos, Rudy and Jessenia took off in a limo headed to dinner to celebrate their new engagement!

The two plan on having a September 2017 wedding! Congrats Rudy and Jessenia!

Thomas and Alicia Beach Proposal

The first time I talked to Thomas over the phone, I KNEW that him and Alicia had a love that was going to last. Thomas is that sweet guy who had kept every single memento from his relationship with Alicia. Alicia and Thomas met at school in California and knew right away it was meant to be! After school, Alicia moved back to the Seattle area for a job and Thomas soon followed.

There’s a small beach over near Deception Pass that Alicia’s family and friends have named “Alicia Beach.” Thomas knew immediately that he wanted to make Alicia his fiancé at this beach. But of course hiking to a beach and dropping on one knee wasn’t near enough. Thomas wanted to catalog their entire relationship. From the parking lot to the beach, four different tables were set up to document their relationship milestones including: “First Coffee”, “First Date,” “Ventura,” and “Seattle”. Each table had a chalkboard with key dates, photos, flowers and mementos from that time period.

By the time they made it to Alicia Beach, Alicia anticipated what was coming. There was a much larger chalkboard with champagne, rose petals and candles set up. Thomas dropped down on his knee for .5 seconds before Alicia said “Yes!”

The newly engaged couple celebrated with champagne and took the day to be together. Later that evening they headed to a restaurant to celebrate with their closest family and friends in Seattle.

The two wed on a beautiful November Saturday and we’re so excited for them to celebrate this huge chapter in their lives!

The ring box that will solve all of your problems

Posted by Victoria Rellas

You’ve planned out your whole proposal. You’ve made sure her friends and family have kept their mouths shut. You’ve deleted e-mails, texts, any evidence about the proposal. And then you leave for the big night with your soon to be fiance with a huge, bulky ring box in your pocket that screams to the world and to your girlfriend that you plan on proposing tonight! Not so sneaky after all of your hard work!

A packaging designer from Vancouver has solved this issue with the Clifton ring box! This new design allows you to have the ring in your pocket all night, without spoiling the surprise! The box can fit in your pocket, or even into your wallet. Screen Shot 2014-09-11 at 12.21.17 PM

Ring Sizes – Where Do You Even Start?!

Posted By: Sarah Gai, Seattle

So. You’re planning on popping the question. You know you want to present the woman of your dreams with a ring that will knock her socks off. You’ve saved the cash. You’ve got a general idea of her style. Now what?

engagement ring

Let’s start at the beginning, my friend. Your first covert mission is to stealthy find a way to figure out your gal’s ring size. Here are three (hopefully!) foolproof tips to get you on your way.

  1. For Captain Obvious: steal a ring.
While she’s away, sneak into her jewelry box and pickpocket a ring she’s not going to miss. Keep in mind: your engagement ring sits on your sweetheart’s left finger, so if your hijacking one that she normally wears on her right, consider stepping down a half-size.
  2. For the Resourceful One: turn to the internet.
Our good friends at Zales have taken the guesswork out of ring sizing with this printable chart. It’s as simple as placing the ring on top of each circle until you find the perfect match. A child could complete this task. Need we say more
  3. For the Craftsman: make an impression.
Now, this may require a bit more skill on your part, but several jewelers have actually recommended making an impression of the ring with a bar of soap. Wet the bar of soap, press the ring firmly into the bar, and save the soap in a plastic sandwich bag. Off you go to present your latest masterpiece to the jeweler, who can determine her ring size from there.

You are now on your way to becoming an engaged man! Keep checking back for more tips when it comes to popping the question.

Engagement Season, It’s Officially Here!

Posted By: Rachael Wyatt, New York

Engagement Season is upon us – yep that is a real thing. Did you know that 1/3 of couples do get engaged from November to February? I love how Hearts On Fire laid out this information that they compiled. Some of these statistics are really worth considering when you are shopping for a ring. It’s likely that if you really want to surprise her, you might have to do some digging to get some of these answers, in terms of what is important to her. We are here to help if you are thinking of proposing to that special girl this Holiday Season.  And remember, like Meaghan said, try to avoid proposing in food – it’s time to start getting creative!  Stay tuned, as we will be giving more tips in the coming weeks regarding Proposals and how Planning For Dudes can help you.

Shaun + Shannon’s Proposal

Being in NY for a photoshoot, Shaun saw the perfect opportunity to propose to his girlfriend, Shannon. Under the impression that they were going to dinner with some friends down near Brooklyn Bridge Park, Shannon had no idea what was coming. After receiving a text that their friends were running late, Shaun suggested they take a walk in the park to take in the view and take some pictures. Shaun had his friend and fantastic photographer, Sara Kerens, waiting to photograph when Shaun popped the question and then take some portraits of the couple to celebrate the moment. That was followed by a romantic dinner at Pure Food and Wine in Manhattan and a stay at The Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn.

“Rachael from Sweet Pea Events was crucial in helping me plan this special day for my sweet fiancé. Being from half way across the country and trying to plan a proposal in a city that is so big can be a very overwhelming task. Rachael was able to help me with location ideas, develop a realistic timeline for getting to all the spots, and made the dinner experience at Pure Food and Wine so memorable. We arrived at the restaurant to a beautiful set up with personalized details and Shannon’s favorite flowers awaiting on our reserved table. I’m so grateful for Rachael and Sweet Pea Events for all their help in making this the most memorable moment of our lives!”

Katy + Stephen’s Proposal

Stephen and Katy met in 8th grade and had been dating since their freshmen year of high school. We asked Stephen a lot of questions to help us prepare for the proposal so that we could get a feel for her style and the exact type of proposal that she would love. He wanted the setting to be intimate, just the two of them. So, we ended up deciding that it would be the perfect setting to stage the proposal at The Reata in Fort Worth, and reserved a private room for them that our team transformed into a Parisian café. Stephen told Katy they had a work dinner there, but to Katy’s sheer surprise she walked into a fully decorated room just for her, and Stephen got down on one knee and proposed! She had no idea at all that he was going to propose that night – mission successful! J Midnight in Paris played on the tv while Katy + Stephen sipped on French 75s, Jamie from Posta Bella sketched adorable photos of the couple and of her new sparkly ring. We had signage and sweets custom made for the couple that were super fun for photos. Eiffel Tower ornaments were favors that were part of the tablescape and treasures that they took home from the evening. We had Posh Floral prepare an amazing “proposal bouquet” for Katy and had Paloma’s Nest create a custom bouquet tile with their initials, that Katy will be able to use on her wedding day bouquet and cherish forever. These are just a few of the details that went into this sweet proposal.

“I could not have dreamed of a more perfect proposal. After 10 years together, I never thought Stephen would be able to pull off a surprise proposal. With the help of Kelly and Meaghan, that is exactly what they did. Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for them helping Stephen create one of the most memorable nights of our lives. The whole night was tailored to us with amazing attention to detail. I love that we are able to share the photos and video of the night with our family and friends. The beautiful sketches by Jamie are something that we will always have on display in our home to remind us of that night. It is a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life!”
“Kelly and Meaghan – THANK YOU for making our night so special! Stephen was able to enjoy the night without having to worry about any of the details. You both are amazing event planners and we highly recommend you!”
-Katy Grimes

“Thank you Kelly and Meaghan! Your creativity and meticulous planning helped make my proposal to Katy so memorable. The amount of detail put into setting the scene was beyond anything I could have achieved alone. Given a few examples of Katy’s preferences, you created a totally personalized atmosphere. Our constant communication leading up to the proposal allowed me to relax and focus on Katy, knowing that everything was in place. I know now that I would have been a mess if given any more responsibility! Katy and I will never forget the night of our engagement, thanks in no small part to all of your input. The photos and video have been invaluable, allowing us to share the experience with our loved ones. I could not recommend your services enough to a prospective groom!”
